Houghton Lyric Theater—Opera and Music Theater Ensemble
The Houghton Lyric Theater is a community-based organization and ensemble part of the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College. The mission of Houghton Lyric Theater is to enrich the culture of Western New York by producing quality staged and concert performances of opera, operetta, and musical theatre, investing in educational programs, and being an active member of the immediate community in order to promote lyric theater-related community events for people of diverse traditions and economic backgrounds. Under the guidance of our Artistic Director, Mitchell Hutchings, the Houghton Lyric Theater has produced both opera and musical theatre works, including Houghton College’s first full-length, fully orchestrated, fully-staged opera in a foreign language (L’elisir d’amore, 2014) and Houghton College’s first world premiere workshop (Rodman in North Korea, 2015). Guest Artists and Master Class clinicians sponsored by the Houghton Lyric Theater have included such elite members of the professional singing community as singers from the Metropolitan Opera and multiple George London Competition winners.     ttps://
